Who is Affected?

A barrage of Scholars and Organizations argue that everyone_male or female, can be affected by Gender Based Violence. Most people still see gender issues as a women's issue, even though the strict definition of gender encompasses male, female, and other gender identities (Chiu, 2019).According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reports, in the year ending March 2019, an estimated 2.4 million adults aged 16-74 years experienced domestic abuse in the previous year (1.6 million women, and 786,000 men).

However, women are more at risk, because in every other studies carried out, we find that the number of Gender Based Violence on men is not as high as women’s. World Bank (2019) states that Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. 35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and / or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. Globally, 7% of women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than a partner. Globally, as many as 38% of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner. 200 million women have experienced Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
